  1. collect the ‘peppercorns’ when they have turned from green to pink, red or purple
  2. a slightly milder flavour than black pepper
  3. use as a flavouring in food, alcoholic drinks and pickles

The tree is native to arid zone of northern South America and Peru’s Andean deserts.

In Cyprus it’s planted by municipalities along roadsides and in public parks.

As an ornamental evergreen, fast-growing tree it is suited to the Cyprus climate being resistant to drought, high temperatures and frost.
