preparation

  1. pick mushrooms with unopened caps and white gills
  2. clean the mushrooms with a brush or damp cloth to remove any dirt or debris
  3. avoid washing them as they can absorb water and become soggy
  4. they have  a delicate flavour and a slightly crunchy texture

The Common Ink Cap (Coprinopsis atramentaria) looks very similar but with a smooth cap without the reflective particles. Eating the Common Ink Cap with alcohol is poisonous as it inhibits the breakdown of alcohol in the liver, and toxic levels build up in the body.
