Description

Leaflets are ovateegg-shaped, narrow at base or ellipticoval-shaped, small or no point, with a smooth, sinuatewith wave-like indentations-serrateteeth forward-pointing or sinuatewith wave-like indentations-crenatewith rounded teeth margin
  • the leaves are dark green colour with a lighter stem that is hollow
  • grows in damp places, shaded valleys and near streams and rivers

  1. pick tender stems and leaves for salads
  2. has a peppery flavour
  3. can be cooked for soup

Caution when foraging watercress from streams and rivers. Watercress grown in the presence of manure or sewage can be an environment for parasites such as giardia or liver fluke, Fasciola hepatica.
