foraging food

The end of the summer in Cyprus brings some relief from the scorching heat, with some cooler nights, but the days still remain hot as the Autumnal Equinox approaches. For those who enjoy foraging, however, the dry, dusty island presents some challenges, as the dry season takes its toll on the wild plants and fruits.

Nevertheless, there are still some tantalizing wild foods to be found. Among these are mushrooms, wild berries, nuts, and herbs like oregano and thyme.

Foraging can be a rewarding experience, connecting people with the natural environment, and offering an opportunity to sample some of the local flavours unique to the island. As always, it is important to exercise caution and obtain proper guidance when venturing into the wilds.
