Description

  • the young plant has truncate squared-off apex or cordate heart-shaped, stem in cleft light grey-green leaves
  • palmate like a hand with fingers stiff, spiny with sharp stiff points and leathery leaves with purple veins and white outline
  • grows in coastal areas

preparation

  1. pick young tender plant and root
  2. steam or boil and serve with olive oil and lemon
  3. can be pickled
  4. the root can be candied as a sweet
