Description

  • Leaf morphology changes as the plant matures
  • The leaves are smooth, slightly fleshy, with a dentate, with symmetrical teeth or lobate, indented, but not to mid-line margin.
  • The first two leaves are lanceolate, pointed at both ends with 2-5 lobes with pointed tips.
  • The third and fourth leaves have 5 deep lobes, divided into numerous toothed and pointed segments.
  • At the top of the stem near the flower head the leaves are lanceolate, pointed at both ends without lobes.

preparation

  1. pick young tender leaves for salad
  2. steam or boil leaves and stems, serve with oilive oil and lemon
  3. use the flowers for tea

extra info

The Corn Marigold and the Crown Daisy look very similar. Confusingly the Greek name ‘Σιμιλλούδιν’ is used to refer to both plants.
